Barbara and my mother, Marianne Wichmann, were next-door neighbors for 25 years. When my mother was sick, Barbara would notice that she hadn´t been out of the house much. Barbara would make her fresh fruit salad from oranges. My mother grew up during World War II in England, where oranges were only given in your stocking at Christmas. She did not know how to make fresh fruit salad, nor did I. We learned from Barbara. Barbara was diligent in keeping up her property inside and out, setting the example industriously as she swept her driveway, cut her own grass, maintaining the standards of our South of Broad neighborhood. In her early 90s, she recited to me at White point Gardens, having walked there, a poem she had written in her youth with many stanzes about riding her horse through the woods. Her brother Gus was one of my father Fred Wichmann`s best friends. Gus would say to my father while aboard Mobjack, "Fred, read us some poetry." Daddy would recite to his pleasure. When Barbara was bedridden, I would recite a line of her poetry back to her and would sing to her the 23rd Psalm.

Barbara was my next door neighbor for the last (almost) 10 years since I purchased the house next to hers on King St. Barbara was "the best neighbor" in all the right ways. She spoke words of encouragement, truth and friendship while never being anything but a gracious neighbor. I am so glad I got to share yardwork Saturdays with her in the first few years after I moved to King St! We would have the best time gardening together and never a Christmas Eve passed without her, when able, to join my small drop in of neighbors and friends! Barbara I love you and you will be missed as I adjust to absence. You are in your final home and it was a long journey but WELL DONE GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT!
Love ALWAYS,
Daniel Massi

Barbara was my mother´s longtime neighbor and friend. It was such fun having an afternoon glass of wine or a scotch with them as they not only were extremely smart but so, so funny.
I truly miss their company and now Barbara and De will have many more great stories when we are together again.
