Dick was one of the earliest folks that I had a mentoring relationship with once joining Draper back in 1982. His wisdom and knowledge had a notable impact on the direction of my career which has been both enjoyable and fulfilling. I still, to this day, see his face when I think back on those years. I will miss him and wish blessings to his family where I'm sure the loss will be felt more deeply.

Dick was an exceptional person (an absolute great guy) and was as good an engineer and leader as Draper ever had. He was important and influential to many of us in our career development. I will never forget what he did for me personally, I apply lessons learned from him every day. As others have said, he was a tough guy but fair and had a heart of gold. I was lucky enough to stay in touch with Dick and Marilyn after he retired, occasional dinners, phone calls, etc. Dick was the same guy at the end as the one I was introduced to over 40 years ago, I will truly miss him, may his memory be eternal.

I was lucky enough to see Dick in action at work and have him as a professor. I always appreciated seeing how he handled situations and broke down problems. Alot of us are better Engineers because of him. Let his memory live on in all of us. Thank you to his family to sharing him with us. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.

He was a hands on manager who knew all in his group. He also had a great sense of humor!

My deepest sympathy to Dick's family.
I first met Dick on one of his after-hours walks at Draper. He knew everyone and everything that was going on at the lab from first-hand experience. He went out of his way to understand what you were working on and what problems you were having. He would always help when necessary and always showed support. He was always tough but kind and respectful to all and I am grateful for my years at Draper with him.

I was in Dick's group when I first came to Draper. He was tough on his guys but always fair. Later, when I was in a different group and I saw him in the hallways or the elevator, he always went out of his way to say hi. My prayers and thoughts are with his family.

Dick was a huge figure at Draper. He was always “the Chief Engineer” and was respected by all. He was very practical and wouldn’t tolerate nonsense but was also helpful and friendly. He would listen carefully and made useful suggestions. He had sense of humor and was fun to be around. He made a point of coming around to visit everyone at their office before the Christmas holiday. I’m glad to have known him.

Dick and I worked tirelessly at Daper Lab to have the PROGRAM AND ENGINEERING GROUPS work together, after we went to the MATRIX ORGANIZATION. He definitely helped many in the ENGINEERING GROUP. When there were problems we worked very hard to work them out together. He was one of my best friends.

One of the best mentors I ever had and one of the best people I have ever known. Dick changed me as a professional and as a person my life has been better for knowing him. I owe him more than I could ever express in words. He will be dearly missed, and I will always remember him with respect and love. Farewell my friend - see you on the other side.

Dick once described someone to me as a "Class Act". While Draper Lab. had many who could fit that description there were none more so than Dick. He was a Class Act that I will never forget. I believe anyone who dealt with Dick was fortunate whether they were family, friend, or coworker.
