Cleveland McMillan Memoriam

May 15, 1928 - January 9, 2025 Robert Lee - Buzz McMillan entered his eternal home on January 9, 2025. Born in Rockwood, Texas, on May 15, 1928, Buzz attended schools in Doole and Melvin where he was active in football and basketball. As a young boy, he made the best decision of his life, to trust the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior, and he followed the Lord faithfully the rest of his life.
After graduation from Melvin High School, he entered the US Army and served his country faithfully in the war in Korea. He never talked much about the war years, but he rarely went out in public in his later years without one of his Korean Veteran caps on. After his Army service, he moved to Artesia, NM, where he worked at the Conoco Refinery. His family loved hearing him tell of climbing the tallest tower there every December to hang the Christmas star.
It was in Artesia that Buzz met the love of his life, Virginia. They were married on July 2, 1954, at his parents in Brady, Texas, and shared 68 years of marriage. Theirs was a marriage built on faith and family. Not only was Buzz a spiritual leader for his family, but he served the church as well, as a deacon in the church and Bible study leader throughout the years. Virginia preceded him in death on December 11, 2023.
He would tell you that his family was his greatest treasure. It was no secret that his face would light up when asked about them. Throughout their years in Artesia, Knickerbocker, Christoval and Forsan, he didn't miss a single game of his children. He and Virginia were always in the stands, cheering them on. She would oftentimes pick him up at work and they would trek to wherever one of their children or grandchildren were competing that evening.
To his grandchildren he was first known as Grandpapa, which was eventually shortened to Papa. He was a fun Papa, the stories are endless, of his dry sense of humor and his fake sleep, waiting for one of the grands to come wake him up. The surprise when he would quickly jump awake sent squeals of laughter from everyone in the room! How he will be missed!
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Jason Key. He is survived by his four children, Shari Mains (San Diego, CA), Teri Key (Joe David, Robert Lee, TX), Mark (Carla, Lubbock, TX), and Lisa Cobb (Greenville, SC). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren
