Edward Harris Obituary

Edward Taylor Harris, Jr. Celebrating the Life of Edward Taylor Harris, Jr. On May 11, 2024, God welcomed into His open arms our loving brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. Eddie entered his eternal home after a short battle with liver cancer, at the home of his sister, Glenda Renee Harris, in Long Beach, California. Eddie was the second of 4 siblings, born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on November 22, 1956, to Edward Taylor Harris, Sr. and Virginia Dale Kyer Harris. His adolescence was spent in Lake Charles, where he was active in Boy Scouts, swimming, tap dancing and a brief stint at piano lessons (which ended when the teacher told his mother that she was wasting her money and the teacher's time). The family moved to Lancaster, California in the summer of 1970, where Eddie attended Quartz Hill High School and graduated in 1974. He furthered his education at Antelope Valley Jr. College and eventually settled into a career as an electrician. He worked many years for Jeff Silverman Electric. After leaving Silverman Electric Eddie handled all the maintenance for his brother Howard's company Antelope Valley Property Management. Afterwards, he worked for Bianco Construction, where he retired. Eddie took on the role of father to his son, Kevin, when he was only 2 years old. Eddie always put Kevin first and he instilled in him the importance of a man's word and how to become a responsible adult. Once Kevin became an adult, he gifted Eddie with a granddaughter, Aniyah whom Eddie loved beyond words. LaTanya was the other love of Eddie's life, and they spent 25 years together. Eddie was involved with the usher board and trustee board at Transform Church AV (Growing Valley Baptist Church), where he was loved and respected by so many of the members, that called him 'brother or friend'. Eddie is survived by his life partner, LaTanya Blake; son, Kevin Rediker; granddaughter, Aniyah Rediker; sister, Nesi Stewart, Long Beach, CA; brother, Howard (Lori) Harris, Lancaster, CA; sister, Renee Harris, Long Beach, CA; foster brother, Al Tanner, Pasadena, CA and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, and close family friends. Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Virginia Harris, and brother-in-law, Carl Stewart. We will miss your smile, sense of humor, loving spirit… and hat collection Eddie! Eddie's Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, June 28, 2024 at 1:10 PM at the Transform Church AV (Growing Valley Baptist Church – 44818 20th Street West, Lancaster), officiated by Minister Norman Snowden (a very dear friend of Eddie and the Harris family). A repast will be held at the church immediately following the service. Thank you to Joshua Memorial for assisting with preservice arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Edward.
