O'SHIELDS, Betty Jo

Betty Jo O'Shields, of Summerville, SC, departed this life to join her Heavenly home on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born in Atlanta, on December 24, 1933, to Louie and Roberta Cagle O'Shields, Betty was an avid traveler and cat lover. She called Decatur her life-long home and worked for more than 20 years at Wright Line LLC, Atlanta. She was a devoted Christian and a proud member of Decatur Heights Baptist Church, where she served the Lord faithfully.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Johnny O'Shields, Marion O'Shields, Charles O'Shields, Billy O'Shields, Louie O'Shields Jr.; and her nephew, Michael O'Shields. While Betty never had children of her own, she loved her nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews like they were her own. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Anne O'Shields, Loganville, GA; nephews, Alan O'Shields, Canton, GA, Kevin O'Shields, Summerville, SC, David O'Shields, Decatur, GA; and nieces, Julie O'Shields Devore, Loganville, GA, Melissa O'Shields, Grace Elizabeth "Bettie" King, both from Atlanta, GA; and her cousin, Claudia Roth, Chattanooga, TN.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, on Friday, February 28, at Decatur Heights Baptist Church, and will be officiated by Pastor Alan Smith. Graveside services will be held for family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Betty asked for memorial donations to be made to the South Carolina Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in support of her great-nephew and Cystic Fibrosis survivor, Nathan O'Shields.
