Lawrence Foster Obituary

Lawrence M. Foster

Gardner, MA - Larry(Lawrence) M. Foster, born on November 3, 1957, passed away on May 17, 2024. Larry was a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, going to a 2-room schoolhouse in Wendell and later moving to Orange and Gardner.

Larry is survived by his mother Rita Perkins of Gardner, MA.; his father and stepmother- Lenny and Donna Foster of Orange, MA.; his sister and brother-in-law- Lisa and Kenny Dixon of Spofford, NH; his daughter and son-in-law- Sara and Jamie Alexander of Glasgow, Scotland; his grandson Joey Vieu of Athol, MA.; his granddaughter and her partner- Amber Vieu and Nick Aguilera of Athol MA. and two great-grandchildren: Arkynn and Scarlett Aguilera.

Larry was a hardworking man. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, he dedicated many years of his life to the Erving Paper Mill before his retirement.

Larry loved to laugh and have fun with friends. Whether it was watching NASCAR, cheering on the Patriots, BBQs in the back yard or delving into years long D&D campaigns, you can bet he always had some killer music playing in the background. Most likely it was Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Moody Blues or Jethro Tull. The guy had taste!

His love for Nascar began by going to races with his father and his sister at the Monadnock Speedway.

He loved sci-fi and fantasy books and films. Star Wars and Lord of the Rings were at the top of his list. One of his favorite traditions was hitting the theaters with his sister Lisa whenever a new Star Wars film was out.

When it came to Dungeons and Dragons, Larry was usually the dungeon master and he truly was masterful at it. Running the show and utilizing his storytelling prowess to immerse everyone in a fantastical world of adventure and epic quests that resulted in years of unforgettable and unmatched memories.

Larry loved to head to Carver, Ma. every autumn for King Richard's Faire where, as soon as we were through the castle gates we were transported to a medieval world full of knights jousting, jesters jesting, celebrations, feasts and magic.

While this world can be pretty dull and boring, Larry always found a way to keep it fun and interesting for himself and those around him.

Larry's love for D&D, renaissance fairies, and all things nerdy, awesome and magical has been passed down the generations to his daughter, grandchildren and now even to his great grandchildren, who attended their first renaissance faire this spring. Larry's love and spirit lives on in all of them.

As Gandalf says- The journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it. White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.

We invite you to share your memories and photos of Lawrence on the memorial page, to help keep his spirit alive and celebrate the life he led.

A celebration of life with the family will be held at a later date.
