Nita Grier Obituary

Nita Brewster Grier of Lawrence, KS, formerly from Haven, KS, passed away on April 3, 2019. She was born to Fay & Ray Brewster in 1929 and had 3 siblings; Doris B. Swift (deceased), Charles Brewster (deceased), and Ina May B. Fakhoury. Nita married Paul Grier in 1951 and often said that was one of the best decisions she ever made in her life. She is survived by her three children; Judy Grier Eckhart (and AJ Eckhart), Sara Grier (and Tom Pistorius), and Jim Grier. Nita also had six grandchildren; Leah Pistorius, Chris Grier, Benjamin Grier, Jonathon Grier (deceased), Sam Grier, and Paul Pistorius … and she was very proud of each of them. As her sister Ina May put it, Nita had a great faith and came from a family of realists.

Dear Cousin Nita was my role model...always laughing and jolly, and SO intelligent on many levels. I delighted in the biography she wrote and was able to discuss it with her later. Lovely visit with her in early December....she was in great form, as she usually always was. I will miss those trips to Lawrence, accompanied by cousin (on the other side of the family) Louise. Nita always said Louise was family, too....so like Nita! I will miss her a great deal, but I'm sure she's cheering up all the angels by now! Carol DeFore

Tuesday night jams at Nita's house were always a hoot! Her hammer dulcimer was a delight. George Knappenberger and Bob Williams are gone, too. Miss them all.
