A visitation for Robert "Bob" Francis Merkel, 77, Lawrence will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. He passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, KS.
Bob was born April 15, 1940 in Mound City, KS the son of Lawrence "Larry" and Mildred (Harris) Merkel.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1959 – 1963.
He was a police officer for the Lawrence Police Department retiring in 1988 after 25 plus years of service.
He married Marjory Munger December 1, 1967 in Lawrence, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his sons, Jeff Merkel, Stephens City, VA, Robert Merkel, Benton, AR, and Cindy Lester, Eudora, KS; grandchildren, Devin, Amanda, Kyle, Brittne, Snyder, Morgyn Luse, Travis, Austin, Tyler, Bradley, Miranda, Kiersten, AJ, and Wyatt; and siblings, Jim Robinson, and George Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bill Merkel, and sister, Georgia Jessup.
Memorial Contributions may be made in his name to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #2 and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
