Johnnie Mae Hamilton Obituary

Another Christian soldier went to claim her “Crown of Righteousness” when Sister Johnnie Mae Hamilton answered the called from the Master at “Sunrise” on Monday, March 24, 2025. Mother was born November 20, 1939, to the (late) Sister Winnie and Reverend Jack Armstrong. She attended public school in Jasper, Texas, graduating J.H. Rowe High School in 1957. She attended Tyler Junior College a short time, and later in 1970 she received her Certificate of Completion as an Administrative Assistant (CAA) from Los Angeles City College.

She accepted Christ at an early age, and served faithfully at Armstrong Memorial CME and Moore Chapel CME churches under the leadership of Pastor’s Gary Chalk and Jeffery Robinson.

During her lifetime, she worked for Jasper ISD, Newton and Kirbyville Group Homes for the Burke Center, Coleman’s Mortuary as an attendant serving grieving families and Wal-Mart, Inc. until her retirement in 2020.

Serving others was her life’s work and proudest moments. She received the Pillar of the Community Award in 2018. She was a lifetime member of the NAACP, a volunteer for the Women and Children Shelter of Southeast Texas for many years. She served as a Stewardess for Armstrong and Moore Chapel churches for years. Her services included church secretary/clerk, past president and serving Member of the Pastor’s Aide, President of the Women’s Missionary Society, and a delegate for Southeast Texas Region Annual Conference serving under Senior Bishop Lawrence Reddick, III, and Presiding Elder Reverend Milton Proctor of the Beaumont/Nacogdoches District. Mother enjoyed singing in the choir, working with the children for Vacation Bible School and many other activities. She had a heart for pastors and ministry work. She never missed an opportunity to feed those that were hungry and always donating to the food drives and the Jasper Share Program as a volunteer. She was a true believer of John 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. Her shi is over.

In the summer of 2004, she met the (late) Lee Hamilton, who later became her husband. She was a loving, supportive, caring, ride or die mother of nine and bonus mom to many. She loved and protected her children, and those of the community.

Johnnie was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Hamilton; parents, Winnie and Jack Armstrong; and siblings, Imogene Armstrong, Joe Curtis Armstrong, Ida Nell Garza and Mary McCray.

She leaves the Loves of her Life to cherish her memories, sons, Lincoln Tudmon (Patricia), Carlton Tudmon, Tyron Tudmon (Carolyn) of Jasper, Texas. William Tudmon of Pflugerville, Texas, Jerry McQueen, Damon McQueen of Jasper, Texas, Jabari Hamilton of Chicago, Illinois; daughters, Paulette Lewis (Clay) of Port Arthur, Texas, Christi Jackson (Kent) of Jasper, Texas; bonus children, La’starria Larkin, Larry Goodman, and Cedric Tudmon; one brother, Harold Armstrong; sister/ niece, Brenda Gray, aka Girlie; last blessed aunt, Irene  ompson and Jededa Birdlong; siblings, Betsy’s Girls and brothers; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and three brothers-in-law, Roy Crossley, Nathaniel Crossley (Shirley), and Fred E.
