Jean Lamb Obituary

Lamb, Jean Altman

97, passed away on February 8, 2026, in Tampa, FL. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Jean was born on May 4, 1928, in Ft. Myers, FL, to the late Orian C. Lamb and Paula C. Altman Lamb. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, as a parachutist and code operator, in occupied Japan after World War II. He married Irene Gloria Fernandez on October 26, 1952, in Tampa, and spent his professional career in sales and management with the National Cash Register Company. From an early age, Jean's passion was sailing, and he worked as a charter boat captain in the Virgin Islands as a young man. He often entertained family and friends on his sailboats, Pelican, and My Therapy. Jean and Irene were avid world travelers. After Irene's death, Jean continued to travel with his sons and granddaughter. At the age of 95, he went to Antarctica with cousins. Jean is survived by his son, Bruce Lamb, and granddaughter, Alison Lamb, both of Tampa. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Irene; his son, Keith, of Tampa; his parents; and his two brothers, Howard Orian Lamb, Sr., and Richard Norman Lamb, both of Maryland. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jean's life on February 28, 2026, 12:30-1:30 pm, Blount & Curry Life Event Center, 605 S. MacDill Avenue, Tampa, FL, 33609, with a service to follow at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow at 3 pm, Myrtle Hill Cemetery, 4202 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL, 33610.

Jean was certainly successful in his career, and he lived a long and vibrant life. But we will always remember him for his amazing kindness, interest in our lives, and his engagement with the people and world around him. Any time we communicated, Jean wanted to know all about our latest family news. When we visited, he always wanted to do something interesting with us. Jean never stopped learning about people, places, and things, and he loved to share what he was studying. And of course he loved sailing! I´ll never forget in 2015 when he took us all sailing at age 86 or 87 (see picture). Nor will I forget the time we went for a sail in the bay and cruised downwind to the end of a channel with a plan to lower the sails and motor upwind to get back out...only to find that the motor wouldn´t start when it was time to head back! Always calm and cool under pressure, Jean led us through sailing upwind in that narrow channel, coming within 10 feet of the concrete walls on every tack, and we made it back in style. Thank you, Jean, for sharing your life with all of us!
