Roy Richard Hargett
Roy Richard Hargett, age 65, of Baldwin City, Kansas went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 with his loving family by his side. Richard proclaimed his faith in the Lord and was baptized in 2014.
Richard was born January 14, 1950 in Windsor, Missouri to James Franklin Hargett and Olive Lorene (Miller) Hargett. He moved to Baldwin City in 1958. Richard was a dairy farmer most of his life and in his later years he enjoyed running his own lawn mowing service.
Richard had a big heart along with a witty personality. He loved inviting people over for his cook-outs, telling jokes and going on family vacations, including Branson, MO. He also loved staying at local hotels, going to the zoo and going to the Plaza for a carriage ride. He was content to have picnics at the lake with his children. Some of his hobbies were being a sharp pool and poker player and watching WWE wrestling, westerns and The Waltons.
Richard is survived by his daughter Ashley Hargett and fiancé, Joe Cochran; his son Richard Hargett and wife, Madison; his former wife, Penny Hargett; his father- and mother-in-law, Truly and Viola Schlup; two brothers, Junior Hargett and wife, Hilda, and Dallas Hargett, both of Baldwin City; three sisters, Betty Porter and husband, Gene, Salsbury, MO, Bernice Howell, Westminster, Colorado, and Edith Murray and husband, Gary, Baldwin City; a sister-in-law, Ruth Hargett; many nieces and nephews; and Sparky, his best friend.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathleen Harris and Marjorie Winchell; and a brother, Kenneth Hargett.
Richard will be greatly missed by many.
Family will greet friends on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 712 Ninth St., Baldwin City, KS. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City. Burial will follow at Prairie City Cemetery, Baldwin City.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Prairie Paws Animal Shelter or New Life Assembly of God Church of Baldwin City, c/o Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City, Kansas. Condolences may be sent to the family through www.lamb-roberts.com.
