Richard had a big heart along with a witty personality. He loved inviting people over for his cook-outs, telling jokes and going on family vacations, including Branson, MO. He also loved staying at local hotels, going to the zoo and going to the Plaza for a carriage ride. He was content to have picnics at the lake with his children. Some of his hobbies were being a sharp pool and poker player and watching WWE wrestling, westerns and The Waltons.

Richard is survived by his daughter Ashley Hargett and fiancé, Joe Cochran; his son Richard Hargett and wife, Madison; his former wife, Penny Hargett; his father- and mother-in-law, Truly and Viola Schlup; two brothers, Junior Hargett and wife, Hilda, and Dallas Hargett, both of Baldwin City; three sisters, Betty Porter and husband, Gene, Salsbury, MO, Bernice Howell, Westminster, Colorado, and Edith Murray and husband, Gary, Baldwin City; a sister-in-law, Ruth Hargett; many nieces and nephews; and Sparky, his best friend.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathleen Harris and Marjorie Winchell; and a brother, Kenneth Hargett.

Richard will be greatly missed by many.
