Edwin Kelley Smith
Edwin Kelley Smith died November 14, 2012 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Carl and Martha Kelley Smith and was born at Lawrence Memorial Hospital on October 14, 1944. He grew up in the Vinland area attending Vinland grade school and Baldwin High school, graduating with the class of 1963. He attended the University of Kansas graduating in 1967 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in geography. Edwin then attained additional schooling in the field of meteorology from the University of Oklahoma and St. Louis University.
He was a wildlife artist and photographer. He particularly liked searching for cougars and chasing tornados. In high school he attended a Navy Science Cruise in San Diego, California as a result of entering a science fair in Lawrence. He was awarded this cruise due to observing an area storm.
He attended Baldwin Gospel Chapel and was employed as a security officer at the University of Kansas until his retirement.
Edwin is survived by his mother, Martha Kelley Smith of Lawrence, Kansas; and several Cousins.
His father, Carl Smith preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held Monday, November 19, 2:00 pm at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
