Richard Earl ("Bubba") Hixson
Richard Earl (Bubba) Hixson, 76, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 12, 2014 at his residence in Bonner Springs, KS. He was born January 25, 1938 to William and Dorothy Hixson in Ft. Des Moines Army Post, IA. Richard graduated from Lebanon, MO High School where he met his life-long partner of 50 years, Rita Sue Butcher. Richard served in the U.S. Navy for four years. After that, Richard and Rita married and moved to Kansas City, KS where he was employed at General Motors for over 37 years and retired in 2000.
Richard enjoyed fishing, playing golf, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and riding along in his son's dump truck. He loved sports, especially watching KU basketball, Royals baseball, and the #24 NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon.
Survivors include his wife, Rita; son, Randy; daughter, Sheri Finley; three grandchildren, Thomas Finley (Evie), Daniel Finley and Madison Shaddox; three step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Garry (Linda) and Bill; two half-sisters, Elaine Bishop (Kenny) and Paulette Roberts (Thomas) and several cousins.
A Family Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS 66215.
