Val was born in Oklahoma on Saturday, November 25, 1939, daughter of Reverend Wesley and Ardelia (Cries-For-Ribs) Tah. Val went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 6, 2018 (78) in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She received a Liberal Arts degree from Haskell Indian Nations College in Lawrence, Kansas in 1974 and began working at the bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, DC for approximately 10 years. She returned to Oklahoma to pursue a Master Degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Val was employed as a mental health counselor and health care provider. She was married to the late Amos Birdcreek.
Val was a member of the Ponca, Tonkawa Tribes and an enrolled member of the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma. She enjoyed visiting various churches within the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference, participating in United Methodist Women Activities and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Val is survived by: Daughters, Gwendolyn Ramirez, Lawrence, KS; Brenda and husband Samir Baba, Lawrence, KS; Kim Birdcreek-Steines and husband Perry Steines, Lawrence, KS: Son, Benjamin Birdcreek, Tulsa, OK
