Thelma Melissa Daniels
Thelma Melissa Daniels, age 97, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in Eudora, KS. She was born on November 21, 1917 in Morris, OK during World War I. Her loving parents were Martin Daniels and Rosa Lee (Daniel) Daniels. She grew up in Morris, OK, where she attended Narcissus School. She worked in Stewart Lucky's Department Store, Ramsay's Department Store, Montgomery Wards Department Store, and Safeway in Okmulgee, OK. She lived briefly in Dallas, TX and Oakland, CA. After moving to Lawrence, KS, she worked at Weaver's Department Store. Because of her sewing talent, after retirement, she worked part-time as a seamstress. She was a long-time member of the Kaw Valley Quilter's Guild. She also enjoyed selling Tupperware during her retirement days.
After becoming a Christian at age 12, Thelma became a woman of strong faith who served in church leadership roles as a Sunday School teacher and a home Bible study teacher. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship group. Over her lifetime, her church memberships included First Christian Church of Morris, OK; First Christian Church of Okmulgee, OK; First Christian Church of Lawrence, KS; and Lawrence Heights Christian Church of Lawrence, KS. One of her most meaningful accomplishments was completing the 4-year Menninger Bible Study course. She loved to sing in the church choir and as a member of the Sweet Adelines vocal group in Okmulgee and Lawrence.
She married Clinton Daniels July 18, 1966 and had a loving marriage for 48 years. She and Clint made wonderful memories traveling to over 2 dozen states for camping and fishing trips and family visits.
She is survived by her husband, Clinton Daniels, of Lawrence, KS; daughters Rozana Perico of Palisade, CO and Rogene Burton of Stillwater, OK; stepsons Rick Daniels and Craig Daniels, both of Lawrence, KS; and her brother J.C. Daniels of Sparks, NV. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren, and many other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, and 3 brothers. She was dearly loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 at Lawrence Heights Christian Church in Lawrence, KS.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Lawrence Heights Christian Church Building Fund and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
