Nancy O. Payne
Funeral services for Nancy O. Payne, 74, Lawrence, will be at 7 pm Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be at 1 pm Friday at Oakwood Cemetery, Milan, Mo. Nancy passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at her home.
She was born Dec. 6, 1940, in Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of George and Gladys Sinkey Bell. She moved to Lawrence in 1961. Nancy worked at Hallmark Cards for many years in several different departments, and later at Anthony Chiropractic as an accountant. She spent the last 20+ years working at Midwest Property Management as an accountant. She was a Charter Member of the Red Hat Ladies of Kansas City, and enjoyed bowling for many years with her sisters and close friends, and was a lifetime member and served as secretary of the Lawrence Women's Bowling Association. Nancy was an avid gardener, loved to travel, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She married John R. Payne on Sept. 8, 1961, in Sigourney, Iowa. He survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Julie Katzfey, Lake Waukomis, Mo.; granddaughter Kendall Overman and husband Trent and their children Easton, Caroline, and Hudson, Olathe; grandchildren Jordan, Brian, & Auston Katzfey, Eudora; four brothers, John Bell and wife Hazel, Marion, Ohio, Russell Bell and wife Mary, Canyon City, Calif., Lonnie Bell and wife Pauline, Sigourney, Iowa, and George Bell and wife Terri, St. Paul, Minn,; three sisters, Merry Avery and Jeannie Porter, both of Lawrence, and Penny Melzarek, Eagan, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Nannette Payne.
Friends may call from 9 am to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 5:30 until service time Thursday. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Lawrence Youth Bowling Program, in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044. Online condolences may be sent at rumsey-yost.com
