Marie Houston
Marie Houston died on May 25, 2015 in Lawrence, KS at the age of 95. She was born February 26, 1920 in Highland, New York to Mabel and Byron Brown. She married Frederick Robinson Houston in 1938, and from 1948 to 1992 they lived and raised two sons in Pleasant Valley, New York. They moved to Lawrence in 1992.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband and five siblings, Ernest, Stanley, Lilian and Nathan. She is survived by two sons, Douglas "Doug" Houston, Lawrence, Robert D. Houston, Rutland, VT; five grandchildren, Tricia Kusala, David Houston, Stacy Houston, Sarah Reynolds, Michael Houston; and six great grandchildren.
She was a kind and gentle person, loved and fondly remembered by family and friends. Much of her adult life was dedicated to family. Later in life she passionately took up weaving and became a highly skilled weaver; she continued until no longer able to work the loom.
Her ashes will be inurned in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence next to her husband Frederick ("Bob"). A remembrance service for Marie will be at a later date.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to VNA Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Marie was a wonderful lady and a pssionate reader. She came every week to the mobile library service provided by Lawrence Public Library. I miss her weekly visits.
