I enjoyed getting to know Kathie during my retail days in Wichita. She was such a bright woman and loved her family. I remember when I moved from a house to an apartment and she learned that I was moving. She quickly offered to help and did just that. I will never forget her kind heart. I know she will be missed. Looking back, it was such a privilege to be with Kathie and all her dear friends who rallied around her these last years as she and we said our long goodbyes. Oh, we didn't think of it as the last days then, but now, in retrospect. Kathie came to acceptance of her condition very quickly and mellowed, really, just letting go of all that extra stuff we mortals seem to hold on to for whatever reason. I'll miss our lunches at Stearman's and our favorite gathering place: Toni D's. Kathie, with the long legs and great clothes...with the exquisite taste and definite opinions... I'm going to miss our movie dates and all those times at the Wichita Art Museum, giggling over the machinations of the Friends board; helping pick out invitations and gifts for her sons' weddings, and then again for their baby showers. She fought like a tiger against a disease we all hate, and bought herself two more years...so she could be with us and her cherished Dennis, David and Mark. She went way too soon. But aren't we fortunate that with a little luck, we'll all be together again.
