Fred Purvis Jr.
Fred Purvis Jr, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2014, at age 67, in his Scottsdale home. Fred was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and terrific athlete. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane, of 47 years, and his daughters Amy Reagan Peterson and Stacy Purvis Kirshner and their respective families. Fred is also survived by his mother, Mildred Purvis, of Baldwin City, KS and his brothers and their wives John & Debby Purvis (Wichita) and Michael & Leslie Purvis (Austin). Fred was the oldest of three boys and was raised in Baldwin City, Kansas until he moved to Arizona in 1996. Fred attended Baker University and was a four-year letter winner in football and baseball and inducted into the Baker University Hall of Fame in 2010. Fred had a 15 year career as a teacher and coach and a 7 year career as an air traffic controller, both in Kansas. For years, Fred and his father, Fred Sr., worked together selling picture frames at craft shows and Silver Dollar City. Fred also enjoyed a long career in amateur and senior softball, where he played on numerous championship teams in Kansas and Arizona, winning several individual awards. A celebration of life for Fred will be held on Sunday, November 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at Baker University's Rice Auditorium in Baldwin City. In lieu of flowers, the family is arranging a memorial to support Baldwin High School Athletics in Fred's name and information will be available at the service. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary in Scottsdale, AZ.
