Edgar Virgil Klotz ("Eddie"), 86, passed away on July 16, 2018.
Eddie was born on April 8, 1932, second-to-youngest of ten children born to parents Robert and Phoebe (Jantzen) Klotz. He attended grade schools at Ellis, Kansas, and Denver, Colorado. He married Marjean Macey in Topeka, Kansas, on April 29, 1951, and together they had four children: Connie, Allen, Craig and Robert. Eddie and Marjean also have seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Eddie and Marjean also have seven grandchildren: Kelly Burghart and her husband, Scott, of Tecumseh, Kansas; Stephanie Weiss of Lenexa, Kansas; Mark Fox of Topeka, Kansas; Aaron Klotz and his wife, Leah, of Kansas City, Kansas; Krystle Bixby and her husband, Blake, of Merriam, Kansas; Matthew Klotz of Kansas City, Kansas; and Kelsey Klotz of Wichita, Kansas. Eddie and Marjean also have eight great-grandchildren.
Eddie worked for Meadow Gold Creamery in his early adulthood. He later worked as a salesman for Ed Marling's Furniture & Appliances in Topeka for 16 years. In 1971, he earned Distinguished Salesman's Award from the Sales and Marketing Executives of Topeka. He was later named Store Manager for Marling's Home Furnishings Lawrence location, where he worked for 22 years. He was past-President of Downtown Lawrence Association. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Beulah Chapter #34 in Topeka, Moose Lodge #555 in Topeka, the Elks Lodge in Lawrence, and Masonic Lodge #6 in Lawrence. He was also a member of the Big Blue Club of Lawrence. He enjoyed KU basketball, fishing, boating, water skiing, hunting, golf, gardening, and other outdoor activities.
Eddie is survived by his daughter Connie and her husband, Don, of Las Vegas, Nevada; Allen and his wife, Ariana of Wichita, Kansas; Craig and his partner, Rebecca Mason, of Lawrence, Kansas; and Rob and his wife, Elizabeth Chadwick, of Orlando, Florida. Eddie and Marjean are also survived by their grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Eddie and Marjean are also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws around the U.S.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Phoebe, and his wife Marjean in 2011. He was also preceded in death over the years by his four brothers and five sisters, as well as his foster parents, Rev. Allen and Irma Kellogg, of Dayton, Ohio.
A memorial service for both Eddie and Marjean will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Lawrence Free Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at Topeka Cemetery. Online condolences made at rumsey-yost.com
