Anita Stemmerman, 82 passed away on Sept. 23rd in Tonganoxie, Kansas. She was the daughter of Ernest and Bertha Pontius, she spent her youth living with her brother Burton on South Park Street and attending Lawrence schools. She married Lyle Stemmerman in 1955, they lived on or near various wildlife refuges in Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah, Montana, North Dakota, and Missouri.

She was a licensed practical nurse working in hospital, nursing home, and private duty settings, later a volunteer with St Luke's Hospital Auxiliary and was elected president of the Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries in 2004.

She was a loving mother to her four sons, Steven, (Lawrence), Brian (Woodinville, WA), David, (Lincoln, NE) and Allen (Juneau, AK). grandmother to, Luke, Daniel, Ryan. Ian, Cole and Brynne, and great grandmother to Aiden. A private service will be held by the family on Oct. 21st.
