Shirley Jean Johnson, age 83 of Baldwin City, KS passed away August 9, 2018 at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, KS. Shirley was born May 17, 1935, the 5th daughter of William A and Marie Hunter.
She attended grade school in the Willow Springs School District #51 and graduated from Baldwin High School with the class of 1953.
She was united in marriage to Delbert Gene Johnson in 1954. To this union two sons were born, Kim Hunter Johnson and Robert Dale Johnson.
Shirley worked at the First National Bank in Lawrence, a branch of Bank of America in Solana Beach, CA, the Business Office at Baker University and for 25 years at the Baldwin State Bank retiring in 1990.
She is survived by one son, Dr. Robert Dale Johnson and his wife, Julie, three grandchildren, Sarah Kimberly Riffel and her husband, Brandon, Ethan Hunter Johnson and Dominic Michael Johnson; three step grandchildren, Matthew Iles, Sarah Iles and Nathan Iles; and one sister Muriel Maness.
She was preceded in death by her son Kim in 1974; her parents; her husband Delbert Gene Johnson; and four sisters, Wilma Maness, Barbara Brecheisen, Lila Maloney, and Atha Fern Jones.
Shirley belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City, Dorcas Circle of the church, Evangeline Chapter #162 order of the Eastern Star where she was a 50 year member and Past Matrons Club all in Baldwin City.
Shirley loved working in the garden, canning and working in the strawberry bed. She enjoyed her home and looked forward to seeing her son and his family. She loved her children, grandchildren and step grandchildren dearly.
Graveside memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church of Baldwin City in c/o Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City, Kansas 66006.
