Myrtle Lee Bennett Newland 79 passed away Jan. 13, 2014, in her home, in Kentwood, La.

She was born April 26, 1934, to Hinze and Emma Bennett at Amite, La. She graduated from Amite High School and went on to graduated from Louisiana State University in Hammond, with a degree in Social Services. She worked in that field for several years.

She met and married the love of her life, Leonard Newland, on April 26, 1955. They nearly shared 59 years of happy and loving life together. They also worked together and kept records on their milking herd of Ayrshire cows, receiving the honor of being top producer of Louisiana for 8 or 9 years.

Myrtle Lee was clerk of the local Auction Barn at Amite, La. She also was a member of the Assembly of God Church, at Kentwood and served the Lord in many ways. She was a Sunday School teacher and also served as secretary-treasure for several years.

She was secretary-treasure of the Killian Chapel Cemetary Association, for many years.

Myrtle Lee was loving and caring person and met every one with a smile and her Southern Hospitality. She was well known by many and loved by all. She will be missed here on earth and has now gone peacefully, and unexpectedly in her sleep to met her beloved Maker.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard of the home, 2 brothers; Lester of Hammond, La. and Lawrence and his wife Mauriein of Tennessee. She is also survived by 3 sister-in-laws and their husbands; Rose Marie Newland an Gayle Cook of Topeka, Ks, Mildred Newland and Floyd Couch, of Braymer, Mo., and Charlene Newland-Coates, and Keith Rockhold of Centropolis, Ks., and a host of neices and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters; Berneice, Bobbie Jean, and a baby sister, 3 brothers; Calvin, Letch, and Dewitt.

Services were conducted by Rev. David Cutrer on Jan. 16, 2014 at the McKnealy Funeral Home of Kentwood and was followed by Interment in the Killian Chapel Cemetary in Amite, La. Condolences may be sent to Leonard@78588 McElveen Road, Kentwood, La. 70444.

Myrtle Lee will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
