John J. Schaff, Jr. of Lawrence, KS, 67, was called home by our Lord on January 5, 2017, following a rapidly progressing illness. He was born in Kansas City on September 9, 1949, to John and Mary Schaff. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dennis, his nephew Christopher, and the love of his life, Glenda. He is survived by his sister Kathleen Payne(Mark), his brothers Allan, Rick,(Margie), Greg, (Julie), sister-in-law Mary, numerous nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Hayden High School in Topeka, class of 1967. He was interested in music as a young man, and enjoyed playing guitar in local garage bands. He served in the United States Navy as a Sonar Technician during the war in Vietnam. After his discharge he attended classes at Fort Hays and the University of Kansas. He lived most of his adult life in Lawrence, where he nurtured his love of reading and music. John loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a generous soul and often gave to others in need though resources were limited. John was loved and will be greatly missed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 13, at 10 a.m. at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Kentucky St, Lawrence. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to KC Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO.

My sincere condolences to all the family. I fondly remember all our visits at Grandma and Grandpas when we were children. As we get older life gets in the way so to speak and visits are few but know that you are in my thoughts often. Saying prayers that you find peace and comfort at this time. My love to all as always. I was so sorry to hear of John's passing. I remember visiting him in Lawrence with Allan. Please accept my condolences. My heart goes out to the Schaff family.
