At a later date, there will be a partial spreading of Mr. Conn's ashes at his parent's grave site in Eldridge, MO and at his granddaughter's grave site in Edwardsville, KS.
Vernon was born on May 10th, 1935 in Eldridge, MO. As a young man he worked as a farm hand, driving and repairing machinery. Mr. Conn was a US Army Veteran and served as a mechanic while stationed in Korea. In 1961 he and his family moved to Bonner Springs, KS where he enjoyed a 38 year career as a Shop Foreman with Southwest Steel Fabrications and helped to build the staircase for the St. Louis Arch. After retiring, Vernon lived in Camdenton, Mo before moving to Concordia, MO in 2002 where he earned the reputation as the resident "Mr. Fix-it" repairing everything from weed wackers to washing machines and usually for free. He also enjoyed creating beautiful wood working projects that he loved to share with his grateful family and friends. Vernon was an accomplished singer, songwriter, and musician choosing guitars (guit-fiddles) and banjos as his weapons of choice. On most days you could find him fishing, tinkering in his shed, going to get lottery tickets and spoiling his dog. Vernon cooked & ate almost constantly, all while never gaining an ounce. He thoroughly enjoyed a strong cup of coffee, fresh long johns & any brand of vanilla ice cream.
Mr. Conn was preceded in death by his parents, 5 siblings and granddaughter Stephanie Conn (Jake Henry) in 2010.
Vernon is survived by his dog, Missy, Gladstone, MO, brother, Eugene Conn, Richland, MO, children Vernon W.
