John W. Lounsbury

Memorial services for John W. Lounsbury, 77, Lawrence, KS will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, Kansas. Private inurnment will be at a later date. He died on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Neuvant House of Lawrence.

John was born on May 3, 1935 in Lincoln County, KS, the son of Howard M. and Laura Ruth Watson Lounsbury.

He was a 1957 graduate of the University of Kansas with a B.S. in Education. While at KU, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

He served his country in the US Marine Corps as a pilot and retired in 1962, as a 1st Lieutenant, after five years service.

During John's career, he worked in finance and banking. He worked in banks in Beloit, KS, St. Joseph, MO, Kansas City, MO and Lawrence. In Lawrence, he worked for the University National Bank and retired in 1998 from the US Bank.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawrence and served there as Treasurer on the Board of Trustees and as a deacon. While in St. Joseph, MO, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served on the Board of the YMCA. He had served on several savings and loan boards while in Missouri. In Lawrence, he was a member of the New Generation Society.



He married Nancy A. Deniston on November 23, 1957 in Topeka, KS. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2004. He then married Susie Madsen on August 27, 2005 in Lawrence, KS. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Todd (wife, Lisa) Lounsbury of Lee's Summit, MO, Chris (wife, Ann) Lounsbury, of Lawrence, KS; two stepsons, John Madsen of San Diego, CA, Scott, Madsen, of Prescott, AZ; two step daughters, Kim Beeler, of Lawrence, KS, Kirsten Rysko, of Overland Park, KS; a granddaughter, Sarah Lounsbury; and eight step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James C. Lounsbury.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the First Christian Church or to the Neuvant House and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
