Lyle E. Young
Funeral services for Lyle E. Young, 91, Lawrence, will be held Thursday, 1:00 p.m., July 18, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Private burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. Lyle passed away peacefully, Sunday July 14, 2013 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
Lyle was born the eldest son in Clifton, KS on February 28, 1922 to Glenn and Remore Young. He graduated from Clifton High School in 1939. He worked for Northern Natural Gas Company until he enlisted in the Army Air Force and became a flight engineer out of San Antonio and then Laredo, Texas. After the war, Lyle went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1946 and retired after nearly 38 years in 1984 as Manager of Network Maintenance for AT&T. Many of these years he was the Wire Chief in Lawrence and saw the introduction of telephones in the dorms of KU students.
Lyle met his wife, Faye, in 1946 and they were married on April 10, 1947. He is survived by his beloved wife, Faye and his younger sister, Lenore Smith of Topeka, KS. He was proud of his twin children, Bob (Sherry) of Topeka, KS and Barb Innes (Bob) of Overland Park, KS, grandchildren, Jennifer Young, Michael Young and Stephen Innes and many nieces and nephews. Lyle was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard and his grandson, Scott Kristopher Innes.
Lyle was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Royal Order of Jesters of Overland Park, KS, member of The Shrine-Acadia Lodge #9, The Scottish Rite Bodies in Lawrence, the Abdallah Temple, Past President of Lawrence Shrine Club, Charter Member of the Jayhawk Fire Brigade, member of the American Legion Post 14, and a life member of AT&T Pioneers Club. Lyle was also a former deacon for Lawrence First Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Elks Lodge#0595, The Lyons Club, and the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce.
Lyle will be remembered for his wit, humor and wisdom he shared with all. He was a Winter Texan, RV camping enthusiast, a KU fan, and treasured by his many friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Children's Mercy Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Jeanene and I are deeply sorrowed by your loss. Lyle was a great man and a mentor that provided me an opportunity for a telephone career after getting out of the Army which lasted 44 years. Lyle was an inspiration and a great role model.

I HAVE MANY GOOD MEMORIES OF LYLE. WE FIRST MET IN 1946 WHEN IT WAS MY FIRST DAY WORKING FOR THE TELEPHONE CO. AND IT WAS IN THE TELECO. GARAGE IN SALINA.
MUCH LATER HE WAS MY BOSS WHEN HE BECOME THE WIRE CHIEF OF THE LAWRENCE OPERATION.

Faye, Robert and Barbara,
I am truly saddened by Lyle's death. He was always so kind and considerate to me when I came over to your home.
His passing will not only leave a void in your lives, but in the hearts of everyone who knew him. He was a true asset to the community and the Lodge. Lyle's memory will always remain deep within my heart.
