Nadine Campbell Obituary

Helen Nadine (Jane) Campbell passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor on October 15, 2018.

Jane was born on January 19, 1917, in Milford, Missouri, the daughter of Dr. Claude E. Duckett and Estella Pearl (Faubian) Duckett. Following the death of her mother in 1924, the family moved to Lamar, Missouri.

She completed her education in nursing at the University of Kansas Medical School, where she graduated in June 1939. Jane met her husband, James W. Campbell, while she was a nurse there and he was undertaking his residency in Internal Medicine. They were married on April 11, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri. Following her husband's return from service in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Europe during WWII and the completion of his residency, the family moved to Lawrence in 1948 where he entered into private practice.

Jane was a longtime member of the Lawrence First Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school classes for a number of years. She was an American Red Cross volunteer: a Golden Girl of Chapter AZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood; a member of University Women's Club; and the Kansas University School of Nursing Alumni Association. She loved playing bridge with her many friends, and over the years welcomed and entertained many international KU students into her home.

Jane is survived by her four children: Stephen (Marnie-deceased/Cindy) of Lawrence, Susan (Bob) Thompson of Spring Hill, Sam (Becky) of Lawrence, and Scott (Leslie) of Lawrence; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren together with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James W. Campbell, her brothers, Dr. Thomas G. Duckett (Hiawatha, KS) and William Duckett (Lamar, MO) and sisters, Allene Isbell (Carthage, MO) and Corine Wise (Olathe, KS).

Private family services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. A reception to greet the family will be held on Thursday, November 8, from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.

The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff of Lawrence Presbyterian Manor and the Lawrence Visiting Nurses for the compassionate care and many kindnesses they extended to Jane. during her time at the Manor.
