Surrounded by her loving family, Clarice (Gertson) Emig, 82, of Abilene passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018. She was born October 19, 1935 in Atwood, Kansas the daughter of Ava and E.T. Gertson M.D. She graduated from Atwood High School with the class of 1953 and from the University of Kansas Medical Center with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Medical Technology. On December 22, 1957 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Dale Emig, in Atwood, Kansas. In 1963 they moved to Abilene where they made their home. Clarice worked as the office manager for Dale's optometric practice in Abilene. She was a charter member of the Chapter GY and JQ PEO Sisterhood, an early member of her book club, Abilene Jr. League Club, and the First United Methodist Church of Abilene. Clarice was an avid reader from history to neurophysiology but her favorite was Dr. Seuss with a child, grandchild, or great grandchild on her lap. Cooking was a passion and her dilly bread could be found in many homes of ailing members of the Abilene community. She had a gentle, kind, and gracious spirit and taught us all the meaning of gratitude.
Clarice is survived by her loving husband, Dale and daughter, Cindy (Emig) Penzler M.D. (Craig) and son, Mark Emig M.D. (Annie). Six grandchildren include Callie Penzler-Randall (Jess), Claire Penzler (Brian Ozorkiewicz), Alexandria, Katelyn, Stephanie, and Mallory Emig. Her newest source of joy was her great-grandchildren: Phoebe and Benjamin Randall, Wyatt and Griffin Ozorkiewicz. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.
