A visitation for Edith C. Oelschlaeger, 89, Lawrence will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Private family burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. Edith passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Edith was born April 8, 1928 in Lawrence, KS the daughter of Lloyd and Roberta (Cornell) Douglas.
She graduated from Linwood High School Class of 1946.
She married Vernon Oelschlaeger March 5, 1949 at Danforth Chapel in Lawrence, KS. He survives of the home.
She and Vernon owned and operated the Lawrence Skate Center and the Shiloh Club, where over 35 Nashville singers performed, as well as many local and regional bands.
Edith loved her family, animals, especially cats, she loved to cook and was known for making the best waffles, she enjoyed sewing items for her grandchildren, she was always up for taking the family on boating adventures and volunteered to drive the boat as the children enjoyed water skiing. She also enjoyed motorcycling. She had a very welcoming personality and opened her home to everyone.
Other survivors include her daughter, Verna Kay Downing (Clifford); son, Larry Oelschlaeger (Betsy Craft), both of Lawrence; three grandchildren, Eryn Downing Ridinger (Justin) and their children, Camden, Trenton; Lydia León (Abel) and their children, Alia, Maya, Andrés; Ashley Oelschlaeger (Rachel Coon) and their children, Joshua, and expecting one more; many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Beverly Kennedy and Lloyd Douglas, Jr.
Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to the Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

So sorry to hear of your loss Vern. We have some good memories of times we spent with the two of you in our younger days. Time has a way of getting away from us but the memories are always there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family now and in the days to follow
