Gilbert R. Holle
Gilbert Ross Holle, 84, passed away November 25, 2013, at Good Samaritan Center in Olathe, Kansas. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 30, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, Kansas. Private burial at a later date.
Gil was born January 29, 1929, in Herkimer, Kansas, to Albert and Katherine (Krug) Holle. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1947 and earned a degree in Business Administration from Kansas University in 1951. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas; Portland, Oregon; Korea and Japan. He began his accounting career in 1955, working first for Ira Shrock in Marysville, then with Barrand and Bradley, CPA, in Lawrence.
On August 24, 1958, Gil married Virginia Tasker, and they made their home in Lawrence. For 15 years, he was employed at Lawrence Memorial Hospital as office manager. In later years, he joined Nick Berndt as a tax accountant. Gil was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, the Optimist Club and the Lawrence Bicycle Club. He enjoyed bicycle trips across Kansas and annual summer camping vacations at Estes Park, Colorado, with his family.
Gil was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Virginia. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 19 years, Opal, of Olathe; his children, Alan and Barbara Holle of Lawrence; stepchildren, Steven Meyers of Olathe; Carol Yerby and husband, Philip, of Plano, Texas; Paula Janicke and husband, Tim, of Shawnee, Kansas; Martin Meyers and wife, Joan, of Olathe; and Gwen Waren and husband, David, of Lenexa, Kansas; 11 step grandchildren and one step great-grandson. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

I am grateful for the life of Mr. Holle. Thanks to his service and to the service of others in our armed forces, my family and I have been able to lead our lives in freedom and peace.
