Rex Lappin Obituary

Rex Lappin

Rex Lappin of Fort Collins, Colorado peacefully passed away on March 13, 2013. He was 77.

Rex was born in Topeka, Kansas to Fra Bicknell and Carl Lappin. Rex lost his father in 1945 precipitating a move by Rex, Fra, and his sister, Pat, to Tonganoxie, Kansas. This turned out to be a serendipitous move as this is where he was to meet the love of his life, Barbara Ann McGee.

Rex was an eagle scout in secondary school and completed his education with a bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas. He remained a faithful alumnus until the day of his passing. Rex joined the Navy to serve his country from 1951-1955. The year 1955 turned out to be the best year of his life as this is when Barbara Ann took his hand in marriage. Rex and Barbara's son, Michael Rex, was born in Tonganoxie in 1956. Patricia Renee joined the family in 1967 while the family was living in Oklahoma City. Rex and his sister, Pat, continued their close relationship bringing their families together for reunions in Telluride, Colorado and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Rex worked for Munsingwear in Oklahoma City and Edmond, Oklahoma for over 25 years, prior to semi-retirement in Fort Collins, Colorado. In Fort Collins, Rex managed the family rental properties and was an active volunteer for the Democratic Party. Rex was the author of many articles published in the Fort Collins Coloradoan. Rex and Barbara have many friends from the Oklahoma days and developed a new circle of friends immediately after moving to Fort Collins. Rex's canine friends were also a huge part of his life.

There was little in Rex's life that made him happier than the Kansas Jayhawks winning yet another basketball game. However, he was careful not to gloat when the Jayhawks beat Barbara, Renee, and Michael's beloved Oklahoma State Cowboys. Rex was a caring and loving father that treated all people fairly and equally.

Rex is survived by Barbara, Michael, Renee, and Cassidy, his dear 4-legged friend.

A private ceremony will be held in Fort Collins to celebrate Rex's life. Friends may send condolences to the family at bohlenderfuneralchapel.com.
