Gerald Francis Wisthoff

Gerald F. Wisthoff, 84, of Harlingen, TX passed away June 1, 2014. Visitation were from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, June 6th, with a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. and a Rosary at 7:30 p.m at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Graveside services were 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 7th at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the , 10580 Barkley St, Suite 400, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.

Gerald was born December 11, 1929 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Marvin and Winnie Wisthoff. When he was thirteen, they moved to the KC area and he graduated from Washington HS. Gerald married the love of his life, Georgia Bell on January 13, 1951 and then joined the Army later that year. He served in the US Army from 1951-53 in the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the 1 OS Service Bar, the Combat Infantry Badge and the United Nations Service Medal. Gerald worked for over 30 years as an operating engineer for the Local 101 and was a 32nd Degree Mason and past Master for the Shawnee Lodge 54 AF & AM, as well as a member of the Ankara Grotto. He was a lifelong member of the VFW and the American Legion and loved traveling and camping; he especially enjoyed his trips to Alaska and Hawaii.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin & Winnie Wisthoff and his sister, Shirley Stark.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Georgia Wisthoff of the home; daughter, Jean Taylor (Jim) of Wichita; son, Gerald "Jerry" M. Wisthoff (Jackie) of the Lake of the Ozarks; grandchildren, Gerald F. Wisthoff, Nicole Whisler Grayson, Jesse Taylor, Allie Taylor and Colin Taylor; sister, Carol Buck; as well as several great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
